It has been reported that Pouya Faragardi, a 37-year-old violinist from the North Majidieh district in Tehran, Iran, was shot and killed by security forces during the protests on 8 January. 

According to reports on social media, it was Faragardi’s aunt who recovered his body and arranged the burial, as his parents had died years earlier and his brother lives abroad. Faragardi has been described as a ‘kind-hearted soul who brought peace through his art’. In addition to playing the violin and teaching, Faragardi also carved traditional wind instruments.

That same day on 8 January, 26-year-old violinist Sanam Pourbabaei was also shot and subsequently died from her injuries.
