The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has announced the re-appointment of violist Asher Zaccardelli as assistant principal viola. Zaccardelli previously held the position between 2019 and 2022.

Additionally, the orchestra has reappointed Jason Lewis as associate principal trumpet, the role which he held before his departure in 2023.

Edinburgh-born violist Zaccardelli was a pupil at St Mary’s Music School before completing his undergraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

As a chamber musician, Zaccardelli works regularly with Scottish Ensemble, Hebrides Ensemble, Thirteen North and 12 Ensemble. Zaccardelli has also appeared as guest principal viola with many UK orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

On his return to the RSNO, Zaccardelli said: ‘I’m delighted to be rejoining the RSNO. I’m looking forward to performing with the Orchestra again and playing in the RSNO’s fantastic viola section.’
