Excellent review, reminding us that great things do happen above the Watford Gap…
I was lucky enough to see this violin when it was on display during an exhibition in Cremona. It was wonderful to see it up close and it’s truly a beautiful instrument and that’s before one considers its history. Incredible to think of Brahms and Joachim working at the violin concerto and trying different passages!
I must buy a ticket for the Euromillions!I first saw Ms. Kang play the Tchaikovsky concerto on a YouTube video and have followed her career closely. I’ve collected her CDs which are quite difficult to obtain but provide ample evidence of her astonishing talent.
We were lucky to hear her play a recital of solo violin music at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2023 and I can honestly say I’ve NEVER heard the violin played like she did that morning! (And I’ve been lucky enough to have heard almost all the great violinists).
This is very well deserved accolade and I hope she continues to play on this fiddle for her entire career. I look forward to hearing her again soon. It’s a gorgeous work but that double stopped passage in the high positions is really difficult!
