26 young musicians were awarded prizes at Singapore’s National Piano & Violin Competition (NPVC) 2025, which concluded on 30 November.

Organised every two years by the Singapore Symphony Group with the support of the National Arts Council, the prize presentation ceremony at the Victoria Concert Hall was held by Goh Swee Chen, chairman of the National Arts Council.

Each of the violin and piano disciplines held four categories: Artist (25 years and below), Senior (21 years and below), Intermediate (15 years and below) and Junior (11 years and below). The Artist and Senior categories featured commissioned set pieces from Singaporean composer Koh Cheng Jin.

The top three winners in each category received certificates, cash prizes of up to SIN$5,000 (£2,900) and eco-friendly trophies.

The prizewinnners of the violin categories were as follows:

Artist (25 years & below)

1^st prize winner: Ernest Syu

Joint 2^nd prize winners: Low Peng Guan, Madeline Goh Anyi

Senior (21 years & below)

1^st prize winner: Low Peng Yang

2ⁿᵈ prize winner: Kaleb Toh Yi Chao

Intermediate (15 years & below)

Joint 1^st prize winners: Cathy Chen Xi, Sophia Ann Fang

Honourable Mention: Mason Chua Yukai

1^st prize winner: Wu Yueer Angela

2ⁿᵈ prize winner: Khew Jing Kai Kaden

The jury for the violin competition comprised Kaoru Kondo, Mira Wang and Erik Heide. Violin adjudicator Mira Wang said: ’What a wonderful opportunity the Singapore Symphony Group has created for Singapore’s young string talents. Their dedication and artistry shine on stage, and I wish them every success as they grow.’

The piano competition prizewinners were as follows:
