Three violinists compete for the €10,000 first prize in Salzburg, Austria

The International Mozart Competition is currently underway in Salzburg, Austria. The second round took place from 9–10 February, with candidates performing works from a prescribed list of sonatas and concertos, as well as the competition’s commissioned work.

Three violinists have been selected to proceed to the final round:

  • Yuki Serino (Italy/Japan)
  • Maxim Tzekov (Austria/Bulgaria)
  • Xunyue Zhang (China)

The finalists will each perform a Mozart concerto with the Mozarteum University Academy Orchestra at the Max Schlereth Hall on 12 February, competing for the €10,000 first prize.

This year’s jury comprises Axel Hiller, Sophia Jaffé, Hagai Shaham, Hanna Weinmeister, with Benjamin Schmid as chairman.
