Four prizes were shared between eight participants, each receiving €2,500

The Kronberg Academy’s Violin and Viola Masterclass took place during the Kronberg Festival from 25 September–3 October in Kronberg, Germany. Four prizes, each worth €5,000, were shared equally between eight participants. The awards were presented by Countess Floria Landgravine of Hesse, Kronberg Academy artistic director Friedemann Eichorn, Hitomi Ono, and Jürgen Frei.
The Prinz von Hessen Prize for highly promising young musicians was awarded to Chinese violinist Jinzhu Li and German violinist Amira Abouzahra. The Nobuko Imai Prize, named for the renowned Japanese violist, was won by Canadian violist Emad Zolfaghari and Serbian violist Andjela Josifoski. The Ana Chumachenco Prize, named for the celebrated Italian-born violinist and pedagogue, went to Estonian violinist Hans Christian Aavik and Canadian violinist Corina Deng. The Manfred Grommek Prize, bestowed by the Bad Sodener Musikstiftung Jürgen Frei, went to Japanese violinists Natsuho Murata and Shotaro Matsuki.
Scholarships for future Kronberg Academy masterclasses were also bestowed, as well as several Manfred Grommek Sponsorship Awards. Teachers at this year’s masterclasses included Tabea Zimmermann, Vadim Gluzman, Donald Weilerstein, Mihaela Martin, Ettore Causa, and Kolja Blacher.
Eichhorn celebrated the outcome of the awards:

Thanks to the generous support of our prize donors and the guidance of our distinguished teachers, they are able to take an important step forward on their artistic journey.’
