Violinist Donald Grant and cellist Indira Grier join the faculty
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) has announced the appointment of Scottish violinist Donald Grant as lecturer and chamber music coordinator, and British cellist Indira Grier as cello lecturer. They will begin their roles in September this year.
Grant is a founding member of the Elias Quartet, which has received accolades including a Boletti-Buitoni Trust award, BBC Music Magazine’s Newcomer of the Year award, and was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists. He is the concertmaster of the Grit Orchestra and frequently performs with the Manchester Collective and Scottish Ensemble.
As a soloist, he has performed at venues including Wigmore Hall and King’s Place, as well as at the Celtic Connections, Ryedale, Southwell and Weesp festivals. As a composer, he has composed works for the Manchester Collective and the Fergus McCreadie Trio, and has both directed and performed his compositions with ensembles including the Aurora Orchestra, Manchester Camerata and Ensemble 360.
Grant also serves as visiting professor of chamber music and artistic director of the chamber studio at the Royal Northern College of Music, and teaches chamber music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Grier is a graduate of London’s Royal College of Music and the Musikhochschule Luebeck, and has studied with teachers including Alexander Chaushian, Troels Svane and Melissa Phelps. She has won prizes at competitions including the Royal Overseas League Competition, the Tunbridge Wells and Bromsgrove international competitions, and the Hattori Foundation awards. Twice, she was a recipient of the Guilhermina Suggia Gift award, and was a Making Music Young Artist.
Grier has performed at festivals including the Verbier Festival and IMS Prussia Cove, and at venues such as Wigmore Hall and St. John’s Smith Square. She has taught in both the junior and senior departments of the Royal College of Music, and currently teaches at the Yehudi Menuhin School.
