Colin Maki resigns as president and Brandon Godman steps in to fill the role
The Violin Society of America (VSA) has announced the resignation of its president, Colin Maki. He trained as a violinist before becoming a dealer and consultant, joining the VSA’s board of directors in 2020 and subsequently assuming the role of president in 2024.
‘We appreciate Colin’s significant contributions to The Society during his service on the board,’ the VSA shared in an update to its members.’
Maki will be succeeded as president by Brandon Godman, with Kathryn Flanders taking up the position of president-elect. Godman is a luthier and an active performer as a fiddler, while Flanders is a full-time violin maker and regularly plays the viola in her local ensemble.
The news comes ahead of the society’s annual convention in November, for which the VSA stated it ‘is proud of the ongoing work to ensure that this is once again the premier event focusing on the making, restoration, and study of violin family instruments and bows… We look forward to seeing you in Cleveland!’
