The Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) has announced that German–American violinist Augustin Hadelich will be the orchestra’s new artistic partner. The role will begin with a multi-year project starting in 2027, which will be made public this spring. The partnership will also include other individual artistic projects co-created by Hadelich and the MCO.

Matthew Truscott, MCO concertmaster and board member, said of the appointment: ’Augustin Hadelich is a profound artist and wonderfully compelling musician with whom the orchestra felt an immediate rapport. We are thrilled to be welcoming Augustin as an artistic partner and look forward with great excitement to our future collaborations.’

Hadelich first collaborated with the MCO in 2025 at the Easter Festival in Salzburg. He said of the news: ’I am very excited to join the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as an artistic partner! Working with the MCO has been immensely rewarding.

’From our first notes together last year in Salzburg, I was impressed and inspired by their sound and musicianship. Our artistic partnership will start with a cycle of Mozart’s violin concertos, and continue with several tours. It will be an inspiring collaboration!’

Augustin Hadelich is a highly sought-after soloist. He has performed with all major US orchestras as well as the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, among other world-class ensembles.

His 2025 summer festival season included the Tanglewood Music Festival, Enescu Festival, Lucerne Festival, BBC Proms, Aspen Music Festival and the Grant Park Music Festival. He is also artist in residence of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, with whom he features in concerto, chamber music, and solo violin recital formats.

Hadelich plays a 1744 violin by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, known as ‘Leduc, Szeryng’, on loan from the Tarisio Trust.

The MCO was founded in 1997. It is governed by its musicians in collaboration with its management. It has travelled extensively across the world and collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding and many others. For chamber orchestra repertoire, it is led by Matthew Truscott and José Maria Blumenschein, while symphonic works are conducted by Daniele Gatti.
