Midori has cancelled her appearances in association with the London Symphony Orchestra’s International Violin Festival this week after being advised by her doctor not to travel.

The Japanese-born violinist was due to give a masterclass at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama on Wednesday 29 April and to perform Bartók’s Second Violin Concerto with the LSO at the Barbican on Thursday 30 April conducted by Tugan Sokhiev. That concert will now feature Baiba Skride, who has stepped in at short notice to perform the same work.

It was announced in July last year that Midori was cancelling performances with the New York Philharmonic because doctors had advised her ‘to curtail work and travel for a brief period due to complications of pregnancy’.

Baiba Skride appeared on the cover of The Strad’s July 2014 issue and discussed recording Szymanowski’s violin concertos.
