The Juilliard Quartet has appointed Joseph Lin as its new first
violinist. He replaces Nick Eanet, who resigned due to health
issues. The 32-year-old Lin will join the quartet next year, and
will also become a member of the Juilliard School faculty, starting
in the autumn of 2011.
Lin studied at the Juilliard School Pre-College division with
Shirley Givens, and at Harvard with Lynn Chang. He won first prize
at the inaugural Michael Hill International Violin Competition in
New Zealand in 2001, and was a founding member of the Formosa
Quartet, which won the 2006 London International String Quartet
Competition. Since 2007 he has been an assistant professor at
Cornell University.
