In this video excerpt from the BBC programme The Repair Shop, luthier John Dilworth restores a 19th-century violin that escaped the Holocaust. The 1883 violin was originally owned by the guest’s grandfather, before being passed down to her aunt who was tragically sent to Auschwitz in 1939. Further investigation of the instrument uncovers the violin’s history, including the maker and unique quirks.
