Ukrainian violinist Marta Krechkovsky takes up the role, having already served in the orchestra’s first violin section
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) has announced the appointment of Marta Krechkovsky as its new assistant concertmaster. Krechkovsky is already a member of the orchestra, having joined the first violin section in 2014.
Krechkovsky says she is ’grateful and excited’ to take up the role. She began her violin studies with her father Orest Krechkovsky at the age of six. Krechkovsky obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Glenn Dicterow, and also received a professional studies degree in orchestral performance from the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Dicterow and Lisa Kim.
She is a prizewinner of the Czech Republic’s Kocian International Violin Competition and was a top-prize winner at Canadian Music Competition in Montreal. As a soloist, she appeared with numerous orchestras in Ukraine, including the Lviv State Symphony Orchestra. She has performed Bach’s Double concerto with Joshua Bell and Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra during their Asia tour and in 2021 performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
She has appeared in music festivals including Pacific Music Festival and Verbier Festival, as well as the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Krechkovsky is a member of the Clarion Quartet, a quartet formed by members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra that specializes in ’Entartete Musik.’ Clarion Quartet’s debut album, Breaking the Silence, was released in February of 2018 on the TYE/Naxos label.
The orchestra welcomed Krechkovsky to her new role on social media:
’A major congratulations to Marta and we look forward to many more seasons with her as a part of the PSO!’
The PSO has additionally appointed Uzbekistan-born violinist Ilkhom Mukhiddinov to the first violin section from January 2025 and Conrad Jones as associate principal trumpet.
Music Director Manfred Honeck commented on the appointments: ’It is with great joy that I welcome Ilkhom and Conrad to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and I congratulate Marta on her appointment. Their exceptional artistry and dedication to music make them outstanding additions to our PSO family.
’ I look forward to the energy and artistry they will contribute in the years to come.’
