First of all, congratulations and respect to Nicolas Deletaille! Cheers! Nicolas, you have faithfully (with great tenacity) kept the historical performance (and instrument's story) alive! With gusto and aplomb may I add! While I have spent the last 30 years creating modern versions of the Arpeggione, you have kept a faithful window to it's past alive (and that's important!) Again, great job!
It may surprise many (in the strings world) that the Apreggione (in a contemporary/modern embodiment known as the GuitarViol) is heard all the time in soundtrack media music! From 300 to Game of Thrones! (It's a way bigger list!). It is very popular with today's Film/TV/Media composers and one is hard pressed to view Netflix/Showtime/HBO etc. without hearing (what are essentially modern Arpeggiones). Who knew? I am guilty (as charged) of being the perp! (Nowadays, just over 300 of these things are owned by said composers - more added all the time!).
Regarding Johann G Stauffer and his 1823 Arpeggione: The bicentennial is coming in 2023. Perhaps now is the time to plan the celebration! From Schubert's Arpeggione sonata to an on screen appearance (electric in John Wick2). . . I should point out that there is an Arpeggione opus soon to be released on Sony Classical. More on the horizon! Cheers!
