Italian violinist Julian Kainrath, 20, has received the first prize in the senior category of the Ysaÿe International Violin Competition in Liège, Belgium, winning €5,000 and the loan of a fine violin. The €2,000 second prize was awarded to Japanese violinist Kaho Takemoto, 24, and the €1,000 third prize to both Taiwanese violinist Wei-Lin Chen, 22, and Japanese violinist Ryota Higashi, 26. In the junior category, the €1,000 first prize went to Singaporean violinist Yoojun Curtis Lee, 13, the €500 second prize to South Korean violinist Jiye Kang, 12, while the €300 third prize was jointly awarded to South Korean violinist Seoyun Kim, 13, and Australian violinist Carine Suparman, also 13…
