Stephen Tavani has been named concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia in the US.

The 24-year-old violinist is currently a student at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, studying with Ida Kavafian and Arnold Steinhardt. He also has a Bachelor of Music from the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles, where he studied with Steinhardt and Robert Lipsett.

A laureate of the 2011 Sibelius International Violin Competition, the 2012 Queen Elisabeth Competition, and the 2013 Michael Hill Violin Competition, Tavani has served as guest concertmaster for the Louisiana Philharmonic and the Youth Orchestra of Americas.

Founded in 1964, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia is a 33-member ensemble directed by Dirk Brossé and resident at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
