Cellist Gabriel Schwabe and pianist Nicholas Rimmer present their video recording of Beethoven’s Cello Sonata no.5, op.102, no.2. The work is Beethoven’s last cello sonata and comprises three movements - including a somewhat bonkers fugal last movement!

The Strad’s reviewer Robin Stowell described the work as ’a mix of drama, lyricism, solemn dialogue and complex counterpoint, convincingly conveyed.’ Check out his review here.

Schwabe and Rimmer have recorded the complete Beethoven Sonatas and Variations over two volumes for Naxos. This sonata is the final installment of their video recordings, the complete playlist of which can be found on YouTube.
