In this exclusive premiere for The Strad, watch Barrokksolistene perform Märk hur vår skugga/See how our shadow by Carl Michael Bellman with coronavirus-adapted lyrics.

In this video, Barokksolistene recreate some of the atmosphere of the pubs and inns in Gustavian Sweden. Bellman’s melancholic, gloomy and mysterious piece is given new lyrics adapted to the pandemic, with a twinkle in the eye. The Swedish composer was well known for the Fredman’s epistles and Fredman’s songs, which combined words and music centred largely around the theme of drinking.

This musical film, featuring Barokksolistene violist Per Buhre on vocals, is part of the launch of The Nordic Sessions, which will be premiered live at Musikfest Bremen on 11 September 2021. While the ensemble’s project,The Alehouse Sessions, takes its inspiration from the folksy Baroque music native to the English taverns and alehouses of the 17th and 18th centuries, its new sibling The Nordic Sessions explores the contemporary Scandinavian repertoire of the era.
