The 2026 edition of the Cavatina Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition took place on 15 May at London’s Wigmore Hall, and was dedicated to piano trios. Seven ensembles representing conservatoires from across the UK took part, with music critic Richard Bratby serving as judge.

This year’s first prize was awarded to Trio Rossetti from the Royal College of Music. It receives £1,500 and a paid performance engagement at Conway Hall as part of the venue’s Sunday Concerts series.

The second prize was won by the Chiarina Trio from the Royal Northern College of Music, receiving £750.

The other competing ensembles were the Estuary Trio from the Royal Academy of Music, Trio Myrthen from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trio Verve from Trinity Laban, Trio Automne from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the Maestoso Trio from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Trio Rossetti was established in 2024 and comprises British violinist Clara Wernig, British cellist Ben Matson and British pianist Mischa Carr. In 2025 it participated in an exchange with the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, leading to a performance at the Wiener Saal. The ensemble has also attended the Budapest Festival Academy, working with artists including Barnabas Kelemen, Boris Brovtsyn and Maxim Rysanov.

Previous winners of the competition include the Tamesis Quartet, the Lark Trio, the Fibonacci Quartet and Trio Havisham.

Voting for the £450 audience prize will conclude on 22 May.
