Coco Mi joins the award-winning ensemble

The Poiesis Quartet has announced the appointment of Coco Mi as its new violinist. Mi joins existing members violinist Sarah Ying Ma, violist Jasper de Boor and cellist Drew Dansby, and replaces Max Ball.
The quartet shared the news via social media, stating: ’We’re so lucky to start this new chapter alongside such a long-time dear friend and brilliant, visionary musician who shares our values, ethos, and mission as artists.’
Mi’s first concert with the quartet will be held on 12 June for the Miami Chamber Music Society’s Mainly Mozart Festival.
Mi was a 2025–2026 Carnegie Hall Ensemble Connect Fellow. She won first prize at the 2025 Washington International Competition, the 2023 Juilliard Competition, and the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition, with additional recognition from the 2025 Barbash Bach Competition and 2024 Koussevitsky Young Artist Awards.
She holds bachelor and master of music degrees from The Juilliard School as a Kovner Fellow and is a recent graduate of Juilliard in the Artist Diploma Program, studying with Laurie Smukler, Donald Weilerstein, and Mark Steinberg.
The Poiesis Quartet is the winner of the 2026 Cleveland Quartet Award and the First Prize and Commission Prize recipients of the 2025 Banff International String Quartet Competition. It joined the Concert Artists Guild roster in 2024 for North American management as winners of the Louis and Susan Meisel Competition.
The ensemble was selected as 2025-26 Ernst Stiefl quartet-in-residence at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and as the 2025 St. Lawrence Emerging String Quartet in Residence at Stanford University. It is currently graduate quartet-in-residence at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) studying under the Ariel Quartet.
As graduates of Oberlin College & Conservatory, the members were previously mentored by Sibbi Bernhardsson of the Pacifica Quartet and members of the Verona Quartet.
