The violinist, who joined the orchestra in 1982, was 85
The Austin Symphony Orchestra has announced the death of its former concertmaster, Vincent Frittelli. Frittelli died on 3 August 2026 aged 85 of dementia.
Frittelli served as concertmaster at Austin Symphony Orchestra from 1982 to 2005. He was also concertmaster at Austin Opera from 1987 to 2020, as well as associate professor of violin at the University of Texas from 1982 to 2009.
Prior to his career in Austin, Frittelli served as concertmaster of the SABC National Symphony in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 1972 to 1979. He served one year as concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra from 1979 to 1980, before taking up the role of associate concertmaster at Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 1980 to 1982.
Frittelli was a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music.
