Three violinists will take to the stage to perform a concerto of their choice with orchestra on 30 August in Sion, Switzerland

Three violinists have progressed to the final round of the 2025 Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, following the semi-final round on 28 August. 

Six contestants performed in the semi-finals, where they played chamber music repertoire with soprano Ekaterina Shelehova, pianist Adrian Oetiker, and cellist Thomas Grossenbacher.

The three competitors selected for the final round are:

  • Maria Lundina
  • Reika Sato
  • Aozhe Zhang

The competition final will be held at the Noda BCVS concert hall in Sion, Switzerland. Finalists will perform a concerto of their choice from a prescribed list and will be accompanied by the South Czech Philharmonic and wind players from Italian orchestras, conducted by Valentin Uryupin.

Finalists will also perform a solo piece of their choice composed after 1970.

The violinists will play for the chance to win the top prize of CHF20,000 (£18,400).

This year’s jury comprises violinists Monika Baer, Ariadne Daskalakis, Sunny Lee, Fumiaki Miura, Lucie Robert, Anton Sorokow, and Pavel Vernikov, as well as musicians from the chamber music round, Grossenbacher and Oetiker.
