The Benedetti Foundation has selected six violinists to play in two masterclasses with Baroque violinist Rachel Podger as the culmination of the 2023 Baroque Virtual Sessions, which have been ongoing since 2 October. To apply, entrants submitted recordings of their playing, which were then adjudicated by a panel of Benedetti Foundation’s tutors. The two masterclasses will take place online on Monday 16 October, with one session for the school-age category and another for the adult category, and may be viewed by all Virtual Sessions participants via Zoom.

For the school-age category, the winners are 13-year-old British violinist Benjamin Giliker, 15-year-old Polish–British violinist Julia Majewska, and 12-year-old British violinist Sapphie Johnson. In the adult category, the winners are Spanish violinist Alba Conejo Mangas, Canadian violinist Guillaume Villeneuve, and Indonesian violinist Riz Ramadhan.

Each violinist will receive a 15-minute masterclass, and for the last 15 minutes of the hour Podger will lead a Q&A session open to all.

Registration for the Virtual Sessions remains open, as all sessions are recorded and will be available for the next three months. Other string specialists leading the sessions include violinists Zelfira Valova, Edson Scheid, Margaret Faultless and Alina Ibragimova, violist Clifton Harrison, and cellist David Watkin.

Calendars
