Competition results

The Isidore Quartet won first prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition. It comes with CA$25,000 (£16,500) and a career development programme. The quartet comprises violinist Phoenix Avalon, 21, and Adrian Steele, 22, violist Devin Moore, 23, and cellist Joshua McClendon, 22. The Opus13 quartet received the £8,000 second prize while the Balourdet Quartet won third prize and £5,200.

The London-based Barbican Quartet has won the €24,000 first prize in the ARD International Competition string quartet discipline. The quartet also took home the €1,000 prize for the best performance of the commissioned piece. It comprises violinist Amarins Wierdsma, 31, and Kate Maloney, 32, violist Christoph Slenczka, 30, and cellist Yoanna Prodanova, 30. The Integra Quartet, from Japan, won the €18,000 second prize, while the Chaos Quartet took the third prize, worth €12,000…
