The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow has appointed
Mieko Kanno as its new head of strings. The Japanese-born violinist
starts in her new post in January 2013. She is currently head of
performance at Durham University and is also a musicologist
specialising in contemporary music.
Kanno studied in London at the Guildhall School of Music &
Drama with Yfrah Neaman. While freelancing as a violinist she
studied musicology and gained her PhD. She worked at York
University and Trinity College of Music before joining the music
department at Durham University in 2001.
