The Ulster Orchestra has been honoured at the Allianz Arts &
Business NI Awards for its community work. The orchestra, in
partnership with local employer JTI UK, has been operating a
ticket-and-transport scheme over the winter called Move to the
Music. Aimed at people over 70 who are living alone, the project
provides a free door-to-door bus service, concert ticket, and hot
drink on arrival for concerts at the Waterfront Hall in
Belfast.
The partnership with JTI also enabled the orchestra to launch a
lunchtime concert series at the Ulster Hall and put on a free
Christmas concert for 1,000 members of community groups.
