US cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform all six of Bach’s Cello Suites in a special online broadcast beginning at 8pm (UK time) on Sunday 24 May. The two-and-a-half-hour performance will be live-streamed on the cellist’s own YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/yoyoma sa well as at ClassicalWCRB.org, the website of WCRB Classical Radio Boston. The concert is intended as ’a memorial for those we have lost and a tribute to our resilience’.

Ma will be performing at WGBH’s Fraser Studio in Boston, with each element of the production managed remotely by a single person and using robotic cameras. ’Yo-Yo Ma has a generosity of spirit, a solemnity that the moment deserves, and a warmth that reminds us of togetherness even as we feel alone,’ said WGBH president and CEO said Jon Abbott. ’It is the strength we draw from each other that will help move us forward, and we are honored to host and produce this memorial event at WGBH.’
