The instrument belongs to Chinese violinist to Longrui Zhu
A £16,500 violin was stolen on a bus in Auckland, New Zealand, at approximately 9am on Saturday 1 August.
The instrument belongs to Longrui Zhu, 22, who is an international student from China currently studying in New Zealand. She was travelling from New Lynn station into central Auckland when she was forced to leave the bus because of an intimidating passenger.
The violin was made by a ‘highly skilled luthier’ in China.
Zhu contacted Auckland Transport and police immediately, though is yet to recover the instrument.
The violinist said:
‘I feel heartbroken because that violin is really, really important to me… I cannot sleep or eat.’
The police told the New Zealand Herald that they were notified of the theft and were reviewing CCTV amid ongoing inquiries.
