Three cellists will perform a concerto in the final round taking place on 7 September in Bucharest

Following the cello division semi-final round of the George Enescu International Competition on 5 September 2026, three contestants have been selected to progress to the final round. They are:
Joshua Kováč, US
Sanghyeok Park, South Korea
Samuel Niederhauser, Switzerland
The final of the cello division will take place on 7 September at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. Contestants will perform a concerto of their choice from a prescribed list, accompanied by the Romanian Radio National Orchestra, conducted by Case Scaglione.
The first prizewinner will receive €15,000, while second and third prizewinners will receive €10,000 and €5,000 respectively. Special prizes will also be awarded, including the best interpretation of George Enescu’s Sonata No. 2 in C major for cello and piano, Op. 26, best interpretation of the commissioned work, the audience award, future concert engagements as well as career guidance and mentoring.
This year’s jury is presided by Arto Noras and comprises Claudio Bohórquez, Marin Cazacu, Enrico Dindo, Elena Dubinets, Frans Helmerson, Dan Prelipcean, Valentin Răduțiu and Inbal Segev.
