Violinist Enrico Filippo Maligno and cellist Matteo Bassan join the Italian ensemble
The Noûs Quartet has announced a change in members, welcoming Italian violinist Enrico Filippo Maligno and Italian cellist Matteo Bassan to the quartet. Maligno succeeds Sofia Manvati as first violin, while Bassan assumes the cello position from Riccardo Baldizzi. They join current second violinist Alberto Franchin and violist Sara Dambruoso.
Maligno has performed as a member of the zArt Quartet and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich.
Bassan has studied at the Fiesole School of Music with Giovanni Gnocchi, at the Agostino Steffani Conservatory with Walter Vestidello and at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana with Asier Polo. He recently won an internship with the Biel Solothurn Orchestra for the 2026–27 season.
The Noûs Quartet was established in Rome in 2011. It studied at the Accademia Walter Stauffer with the Cremona Quartet, at the Basel Music Academy with Rainer Schmidt, at the Escuela Superior de Música ‘Reina Sofia’ and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana with Günter Pichler, and at the Lübeck Musikhochschule with Heime Müller.
Among its accolades, the quartet has received the Piero Farulli Prize and a scholarship from Madrid’s Foundatión Albeniz. It has recorded on labels including Warner Classics, DaVinci Edition, Tactus and Brilliant Classics.
