Six violinists will perform in the final round from 5–7 June
The semifinal round of the 9th Sendai International Music Competition has concluded, and six violinists have been announced for the final round from 5–7 June. They will each perform two concertos with the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Hirokami Junichi, one being a concerto by Mozart.
The candidates are as follows:
Haram Kim (Korea, b.1998)
Lei Hairui (China, b.2005)
Li Jinzhu (China, b.2007)
Moon Boha (Korea, b.2006)
Park Seohyeon (Korea, b.2005)
Zhang Aozhe (China, b.2008)
The first prize winner will receive JPY3,000,000 (£15,000), a diploma and gold medal, as well as concerts with the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra and other major orchestras in Japan, plus future recital engagements in Japan and production of a CD.
Cash prizes are available for all place-winners to sixth prize, with silver and bronze medals for second and third prize respectively.
This year’s jury comprises Shmuel Ashkenasi, Boris Belkin, Mengla Huang, Cho-Liang Lin, Mihaela Martin, Liviu Prunaru, Terakado Ryo and Yonemoto Kyoko. Horigome Yuzuko presides as chair of the jury, with Hori Masafumi and Young-Uck Kim as vice-chairs.
A prizewinners’ gala concert will be held on 8 June.
