Proceeds will support the creative future of Fieldes’ son, Ted

A fundraiser has been launched to honour the legacy of bassist Mathew Fieldes, who died earlier this month, with proceeds supporting his son, Ted.
Fieldes, a New Zealand-born bassist who spent many years based in New York City, was a graduate of The Juilliard School and enjoyed a diverse career performing with orchestras and ensembles including the Absolute Ensemble. He also played bass in the Broadway production of Matilda from 2013 to 2017.
Organisers say the fundraiser was created to celebrate Fieldes’ legacy while supporting Ted’s creative future.
’This fundraiser has been established for Ted, to honour his father’s legacy,’ the fundraising page states. ’One hundred per cent of the funds raised will go directly to Ted’s mother, Cia, to purchase, for example, a musical instrument for Ted or pay for music lessons, whatever she feels will best foster his musical journey.
’Alternatively, if Ted is drawn to another creative art, the funds can be directed towards that, with our full blessing. Whatever is best for Ted. We want to support Ted in pursuing whatever he is passionate about, just like his dad did.”
Donations will be accepted until the end of October 2026. View the fundraiser here.
