Cellist Joshua McClendon leaves the ensemble to pursue new career
The Isidore Quartet has announced that its founding cellist, Joshua McClendon, will be departing the quartet to pursue ‘a new career path outside of music’.
‘From the early days in the Juilliard practice rooms to stages around the world, Josh has been an essential part of the quartet’s journey,’ the quartet shared on social media. ‘We are deeply grateful for everything he has contributed over the past seven years, and it has been a privilege to build this ensemble together. We wish him every success in this next chapter.’
The ensemble also shared that it has been in the process of auditioning cellists to succeed McClendon, stating that the new member will be announced later this year.
The Isidore Quartet was established in 2019 at the Juilliard School, comprising violinists Adrian Steele and Phoenix Avalon, violist Devin Moore, and McClendon. In 2021, it won first prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition, and in 2023 it was the recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant.
