Dorn Music has announced the signing of German cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker to its roster.

Hecker made her international breakthrough with success at the 8th Rostropovich Competition in Paris in 2005, where she became the first contestant in the event’s history to win first prize as well as two special prizes.

Along with her husband, pianist Martin Helmchen, she received the 2022 Pablo Casals Award from the Kronberg Festival in recognition for their social commitment through the Music Road Rwanda project. The pair have appeared in recitals around the world and are co-founders and co-artistic directors of the Internationales Kammermusikfestival Fliessen.

As an in-demand soloist, she has made appearances with orchestras around the world, and collaborated with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding, Thomas Hengelbrock, Philippe Herreweghe, Marek Janowski, Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Christian Thielemann, and Christoph von Dohnányi.

She has recorded four albums for Alpha Classics, which include works such as Brahms’ Cello Sonatas, Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata and Trio No.2 and Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

Hecker attended the Robert Schumann Conservatory and studied with Peter Bruns, Heinrich Schiff and at the Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson, with additional masterclasses from Anner Bylsma, Bernard Greenhouse, Gary Hoffman and Steven Isserlis.

Dorn Music also represents cellist Jan Vogler and violinist Chad Hoopes.
