This illustrated representation of violin making in Italy first appeared in The Strad’s August 1891 issue

This very detailed illustrated family tree of Italian violin makers was published in The Strad’s August 1891 issue. The oldest makers begin at the roots with Joan Kerlino in 1440 (later proved to be fictitious) and the youngest makers end in the topmost branches around 1790.
