Jon Lord, co-founder of the rock group Deep Purple, is to
compose a new work for Henley Festival Orchestra. The piece, which
will have its premiere in 2012, will be Lord's first classical
composition for young musicians.
The Henley Festival Orchestra is a youth ensemble that was founded
in 2008 through the proceeds of the annual Henley Festival. Lord,
who retired from Deep Purple in 2002 and has since achieved success
as a classical composer, is an honorary patron of the festival's
patrons' club.
