The international bow trade is facing major changes from next month. The 185 global parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) have a deadline of 5 March 2026 to implement a key decision on pernambuco (Paubrasilia echinata) taken last December at the 20th Conference of the Parties (CoP20) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. International sales of pernambuco bows will no longer be possible without proof that the wood was harvested before the species first came under CITES protection in 2007.
