lets' go further and create a association for bringing this matter forward. Let us unite for to make pressure on the airlines .
We could work with international lawyers on transnational plan.
I ask herewith Strad, Slipped Disk and Violin Channel to give us a platform where we can spread the ideas and discuss it internationally and move the matter forward to concrete rules and laws.@wouter-van-tiel
you mentioned in your commentary:
"In the United States there is a law that airlines cannot refuse a musicians instrument to be boarded with them. I have a copy of it printed out and in my case".
Please send that copy to strad to make it public and available for all of us...We allways booked Swiss Air (living in Basel Switzerland). We have three children playing cello & violin and giving concerts all around Europe and USA. So we have to book flights often and need to be sure not to have any issues reaching a concert. We had never had any problem with Swiss Air till now and our daughters cello on extra seat, and even the violin allways has been accepted as hand luggage. This is the reason we were willing to pay some elevated price for a ticket from Swiss Air (by the way Lufthansa and Swiss are fused as companies).
I am really shocked and upset about what happened to you. You may send us a PN via facebook if we could help you in any case to fight your rights with Swiss Air. And if you or any musician needs a stay in Basel 🙂.
We should activate our musicians' unions to fight for a clear and binding confirmation that musicians are allowed to have their instruments with them.Amazing, what courageous people! They are real musicians, this is really music in his most deep sense!
such a great interview!
Toby and Itzhak hits the point... every generation gets faster, harder, better, but we go in a concert and wait to get moved and cry... and this is so rare...!
the next concert I will play without bow, so the public con enjoy the violin solo....
this is so ridiculous. Even for masterclasses you won't play without accompaniment.
I get the impression, that so many artists are not sincere, and yes, covid is shit for us, but they try to turn all in something "very special experience for the public". This is a just a terrible lie... Same with all the mass of digital live streams: our only reason of existence is live performance with public, we can not concur with radio television and CD...As musicians we have no security about the handling of our instruments, in that particular moment, when we give our instruments out of our hands. This should never happen. We are exposed to a huge lack of security, as we never know in advance for sure, if they accept our violin/viola as hand baggage.
This terrible loss should be the moment to change the regulations.
Musicians have to travel a lot around the world, and are a important part of the clients of aircraft enterprises. The only solution we see is to put pressure onto the aircraft, demanding a clear policy regarding instruments of musicians, as already mentioned in the article.
