Raphael Zinner will join the Bremen-based group

The Nerida Quartet has welcomed cellist Raphael Zinner to the group. The quartet said on Instagram:

’We are so overjoyed to announce that our friend and cellist, Raphael Zinner, will be our new member of the Nerida Quartet! We have know Raphael since our academy days at the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and so we are excited to venture forth in this new adventure of quartet together… We can’t wait for you to hear him play!’

Zinner completed his undergraduate studies with Troels Svane at the Lübeck College of Music and later studied a masters with Peter Bruns at the Leipzig College of Music. He has undertaken masterclasses with David Geringas, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and Gustav Rivinius.

He was the first ever three-time winner of Jugend Musiziert award and has also won prizes at competitions including the Heran Competition in the Czech Republic, the Liezen International Competition for Cello in Austria and the David Popper Cello Competition in Hungary.

As a chamber musician, he has performed with his piano trio in the Berlin Philharmonie as well as in Boston and Washington. Together with his string quartet at the time, he performed at the Brahms Festival in Lübeck and at the Atlantic Festival. Zinner became a member of the Deutsche Kammer­philharmonie Bremen Academy in 2022, going on to join the orchestra in 2024.

The Nerida Quartet comprises violinists Saskia Niehl and Jeffrey Armstrong and violist Grace Leehan. The group met as academists of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in 2018. Based in Bremen, the quartet has received tuition from Oliver Wille, Martin Funda, Patrick Jüdt, members of the Artemis Quartet and Cuarteto Casals, Hatto Beyerle and Johannes Meissl. The group has been part of the EU-funded MERITA programme since 2023.
