Principal double bassist of the Opéra National de Paris, Thierry Barbé joined the orchestra in 1983 after studying at the Paris Conservatoire, where he was appointed professor in 2000.

Barbé is president of the Association des Bassistes et Contrabassistes de France and sits on the board of the International Society of Bassists.
