The initial sale features 37 instruments, including a Stradivarius violin and two Guadagninis
For the first time in its 122-year history, London stringed instrument dealer J & A Beare is venturing into the world of online auctions. Bidding on the inaugural sale begins on 20 October at 12pm and closes at 12pm on 28 October.
The initial auction features over 35 instruments – 30 violins, including the ‘Cabriac’ Stradivarius dating from 1698 with an estimate of $2.4m-$3.5m (pictured), and two Guadagninis (from 1767 and 1782); 3 violas; 4 cellos – and 10 bows. All instruments sold as 'by' the maker will also be accompanied by a J & A Beare Certificate of Authenticity.
Instruments and bows can be viewed by appointment or at a public viewing held at Bond Street’s Westbury Hotel on 25 and 26 October. Buyers can also view all items on the Beares website where a ‘Buy Now’ option at a fixed price, innovated by the company, is currently offered on selected instruments.
It is expected that Beares will hold two online auctions per year.
