Brett Deubner joins the faculty as assistant professor of viola and chamber music and chamber music coordinator
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) has announced the appointment of Brett Deubner to its faculty, as assistant professor of viola and chamber music coordinator.
Deubner previously served on the string faculties of Temple University’s Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in New York. He continues to serve on the string faculty of the Round Top Festival Institute.
Deubner has performed with more than 90 orchestras in 14 countries. He has had more than 50 concertos composed and dedicated to him and has made 26 recordings. His 2019 recording of Houston Dunleavy’s Concerto A Kiss Before the World’s End with the Orquesta de Heredia of Costa Rica garnered a Latin Grammy nomination.
Additional honours include European International Music Awards Gold Medal for Best Classical Chamber Music for his most recent recording featuring works for viola and piano, a Global Music Awards silver medal, plus a United State Congressional Certificate of Recognition for his commitment to music and education.
As a chamber musician, he has performed with violinist Pinchas Zukerman, the Tokyo Quartet and flautist Carol Wincenc, among others.
Deubner holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music.
Deubner’s appointment is among the 27 new faculty appointments made by UNCSA for the 2026-27 year, across the schools of dance, design and production, drama, filmmaking, music, the division of liberal arts and its high school programme.
