Violinist Annelle Gregory gives winning performance at Sphinx Competition 2017

Annelle K. Gregory performs the first movement of Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in the final of the 2017 Sphinx Competition – which she won, taking home the top prize of $50,000. The performance, which took place at Orchestra Hall, Detroit on 12 February 2017, features the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins.

Held annually, the Sphinx Competition is open to junior high, high school, and college-age Black and Latino string players residing in the US, with the aim of developing classical music talent in the black and Latino communities.
