Violinist Maria Chirinos is appointed assistant concertmaster, and violist Tyler Pacheco joins the viola section

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the appointment of two string players, welcoming Venezuelan violinist Maria Chirinos as assistant concertmaster and US violist Tyler Pacheco as a section viola.

Chirinos has been a section violinist with the orchestra since 2023 and was previously a section violinist with the Columbus and LaGrange symphony orchestras. As a soloist, she has won concerto competitions with the Dakota Valley and Mankato symphony orchestras, and has performed with the Maracaibo, Lara, and Falcón symphony orchestras in Venezuela. An alumnus of El Sistema, Chirinos has also performed at the Salzburg Festival with Simon Rattle, with Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Orchestra, and has toured internationally Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela.

‘Congratulations to Maria, and we look forward to having her start her new role,’ the orchestra stated in its social media announcement.

Pacheco has performed as a substitute musician with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra for numerous years, and now joins the viola section as a core member. He is the adjunct professor of viola and violin at Valencia College and is a co-founder of the Musiva Concert Series, both in Orlando. As a a chamber musician, Pacheco won first prize and second prize respectively at the DePaul and Cincinnati Conservatory chamber competitions, and has performed with notable ensembles including Brooklyn Rider, the Juilliard Quartet and the Ariel Quartet. As an orchestral player, he has performed with the Brevard Symphony, the Florida and Sarasota orchestras, Opera Orlando and the Disney’s Candlelight Processional orchestra.

The orchestra welcomed Pacheco in another social media post: ‘Congratulations to Tyler, we’re thrilled to have him on stage with us!’

Both Chirinos and Pacheco will begin their new roles in the 2025/2026 season.
