The Norwegian musician is the cover star of The Strad’s December 2018 issue
In this month’s issue of The Strad, Vilde Frang discusses why she paired two such disparate works as the Enescu Octet and Bartók’s Violin Concerto no.1. ’Ten years ago the Octet wasn’t part of the standard repertoire,’ she says. ‘Then all of a sudden it was a piece you played at almost every summer music festival, which was how I first encountered it. I then became so fascinated by it that I decided to propose it for every chamber concert I had the opportunity to do, playing it with various different combinations of people. It then occurred to me that the Enescu might make a nice combination with the Bartók. The two composers were born in the same year, they came from the same country (or at least as the map of the world is now), they admired each other, and even played in recitals together.’
