PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

The Strad celebrates its 125th anniversary this year and to mark this milestone we are partnering with the LSO International Violin Festival to host three FREE Strad Sundays at London’s Barbican Centre.

The third Strad Sunday takes place on 28 June 2015. From 3-5.30pm there will be a photographic exhibition in the Fountain Room, charting the development of the violin through close-up views of instruments by makers such as Stradivarius, Guarneri 'del Gesù' and Andrea Amati.

The exhibition will also showcase striking photos from The Strad’s archive, spanning 125 years of musical history.

PRE-CONCERT TALKS

The Strad Sundays also feature three FREE pre-concert talks on the Barbican Hall stage – on violin sound, orchestral auditioning and instrument teaching – running from 6–6.45pm. The last of these will also take place on 28 June:

Making music fun for kids

Discover how to make music lessons interesting and engaging for school-age children, regardless of ability, background and ambition. With LSO sub-principal second violin Sarah Quinn, Junior Guildhall head of strings and English National Opera cellist William Bruce, Havering Music manager Karen Tweddle and Jane Cutler from the Da Capo Music Foundation.

The Strad Sunday's previous events have included:

How to survive the orchestral auditioning process – 3 May 2015, 6-6.45pm

From preparing excerpts to excelling in your first trial, get the inside view from London Symphony Orchestra players on landing your dream orchestral job.
