A violin which belonged to a soldier who died in the trenches of the Somme was featured in the premiere of The Great War Symphony by Patrick Hawes.

Written to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, the symphony received its first performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 9 October with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a massed choir, as part of a Classic FM Live concert.
