For 30 years London-born Chi-chi Nwanoku was principal double bassist of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. She has also led the bass sections of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the London Mozart Players and the English Baroque Soloists.

Now professor of historical double bass performance at the Royal Academy of Music, Nwanoku is also the founder of the Chineke! Orchestra, Europe’s first majority black and minority ethnic orchestra.
