Prizes were awarded in violin, viola, cello, piano, vocal and chamber divisions

The winners of the 21st Johannes Brahms Competition were announced on Sunday. Held in Pörtschach, Austria, the event saw candidates of all ages compete in violin, viola, cello, piano, vocal and chamber music categories.

Winner of the violin division was named as 24-year-old Spaniard Francisco Garcia Fullana (pictured), a graduate of the Juilliard School and University of Southern California, and a prize winner at the 2006 Sarasate and 2003 Julio Cardona International Violin Competitions.

The viola division was won by 24-year-old Jan Snakowski from Poland, a student of the Academy of Music in Kraków, who was awarded an honourable mention at the 2013 Jan Rakowski International Viola Competition.

The cello division was won by 19-year-old Michiaki Ueno from Japan, 2009 winner of the cello division of the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.

The chamber category was won by the Lobkowicz Trio – pianist Lukáš Klánský, violinist Jan Mrá?ek, and cellist Ivan Voká? – all from Czech Republic and graduates of the Prague Conservatoire.

The solo first prize winners each receive €2,500, while the chamber winners receive €3,500 collectively.
