The 23-year-old artist receives €15,000 and performances with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
Jan Mrá?ek from the Czech Republic has been named the winner of the 8th International Fritz Kreisler Competition. The 23-year-old violinist, who performed Brahms’s Concerto in the final held at Vienna’s Konzerthaus, receives €15,000, solo performances with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and recording opportunities. Second prize goes to 21-year-old US violinist William Hagen, who receives €12,000, while third prize is awarded to Austrian artist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, who receives €10,000.
The Fritz Kreisler Competition takes place every four years and is open to violinists of all nationalities between the ages of 14 and 30. It is a tradition of the competition that members of the jury cannot enter their own students or anyone who has studied with them within the last two years.
A graduate of the Prague Conservatory of Music, Jan Mrá?ek also won first prize at the Stefanie Hohl Violin Competition, held in Vienna earlier this year, and second prize at the Prague Springs International Violin Competition in 2010.
